Who Am I (as an artist in HL2)

(Recommended working time: One Week)

In this assignment students will:

  • This sketchbook addition should be a kind of bench mark as to where you are now in your practice of art. It should reflect what your current interests are, whose artwork you like or informs your own, and what you think is working well at the present time. Be specific and neat in your writing and include a lot of illustrations. In fact, you should have about the same amount of images as you do writing.

Investigation Workbooks (IWB): (1-4 pgs.)

  • Prepare a few pages in your sketchbook as we did for our first sketchbook addition in HL1.
  • Title your page, "Who Am I ," and number it as recommended in that first sketchbook addition but continue the page numbering as you have it in your sketchbook already.
  • Creatively add the following research and information (NOTE: You may reference pages from your IWB but you must cite the source of any imagery from the web or print):
    1. Record information on three influences from the Art world. Include:
      1. Artist's date of birth and date of death.
      2. Country of origin
      3. Professional information about the artist
        1. Where they attended school or got their training
        2. What makes this artist's artwork exceptional or unique?
      4. At least one (more is better) photocopy of the artist's work
        1. Use Microsoft word or Google Docs to scale the pictures as you want them for your sketchbook.
        2. Use the color printer in the tech room or library to print your picture
      5. Explain How each artist inspires you through their work. HINT: Use the photocopies as specific subjects.
  • Write about some of the ideas you would like to express through your artwork. This is basically your theme, or a thread that is already running through your work from las year. Select 3-5 works that have a common idea behind them from last year. You are welcome to include information on topics from the web and illustrations to show what you are thinking about or were trying to express.
  • Write about what you think you are doing well in your work at the current time. Are you planning out you work well? Are you improving in your technique? Have you gotten better at observing your subject before beginning? Etc.
    1. You must include at least three images of your work as specific examples.

The Learning Goals:

(This is what the addition will be graded on at the end)

  1. Completion- Follow all of the directions and ensure the project is complete with titles, sub headings, all visual and written information.
  2. Density- Pages should be PACKED with information. So much so that a person should not be able to place a quarter on the page without it touching either written or visual information.
  3. Design- Carefully plan out your pages and specifically place items like titles, subheadings, pictures, and written information.

Assessment: Students may show their work for critique and submit their sketchbooks for evaluation.
